Sturdy-MASH-type ΔΣAD Modulator with Wide Dynamic Range

(in English) This paper proposes a novel multi-stage noise shaping (MASH) architecture of ΔΣAD modulator which is robust against quantization noise leakage and has wide dynamic range. The MASH architecture has been widely used for low oversampling ratio (OSR) ΔΣAD modulator to solve the stability problem in a high-order modulator. However, the performance of MASH architecture ΔΣAD modulator suffers from the leakage of quantization noise which is caused by the mismatches between the analog and digital filters in the modulator. A sturdy MASH (SMASH) architecture has been proposed to relax the matching requirement with the penalty of the decreasing dynamic range of the modulator. In this paper, we present a new MASH architecture of ΔΣAD modulator. The high-order modulator is proposed similar to the MASH architecture without any stability problem, the quantization noise leakage is systematically suppressed, and the dynamic range of the modulator is improved compared to the SMASH modulator. We have performed MATLAB and SPICE simulation to verify the proposed architecture, and the simulation results prove the effectiveness of this structure.
