We have developed a novel “2d Radio Wave Distribution Imager” by using an electromagnetic band-gap (EBG) absorber. Radio wave power is absorbed by “mushroom” cells arranged on a thin printed circuit board (PCB), which are used as a 2d array of “sensors” for the incident radio wave. A matrix of detectors attached on the back-side of the PCB measure the radio-wave power distributions absorbed by the mushroom-cell (sensor) array. The field distributions of impulsive radio signals/noises can be captured and visualized in real-time, while the electromagnetic environment is undisturbed by the EBG absorber. In this report we analyze the absorption characteristics of a prototype EBG absorber, and evaluate the performance of our developed 2d radio wave distribution imager. |
