Simulation and Experimental Evaluation of Nonlinear Distortion on OFDM Systems with Clipping and Filtering

(in English) An OFDM system has a high spectrum efficiency due to its near rectangular power spectrum shape, and also has a strong robustness against frequency-selective fading channels. However, since an OFDM signal is the superposition of independently modulated multiple subcarriers, its peak-to-average power ratio (PAPR) is prohibitively high. An efficient power amplification of such signal may result in prohibitive in-band and out-of-band nonlinear distortion. Clipping and filtering is an effective approach for reducing out-of-band nonlinear distortion but
with a possible increase of in-band distortion. In this paper, we evaluate an overall performance of the cascade system with clipping and filtering followed by power amplification through both computer simulation and experimental
measurement.
