Wireless Energy Transmission for Small Implantable Medical Devices Using Capacitive Coupling -- Analysis of Maximum Receiving Power --

Abstract (in Japanese) (See Japanese page)
(in English) Currently, small implantable medical devices are driven by batteries. However, the implanted device cannot be used to perform additional functions because of the battery energy limitations. To overcome this problem, we propose an energy transmission system that passes a high-frequency current though the human tissue between transmitting electrodes, which are placed on the body surface, and receiving electrodes, which are installed on the implanted device. By using an electromagnetic field simulator (SEMCAD X), we determine the maximum power supply at which the human body model developed at NICT can be reproduced. A maximum receiving power of 4.73 mW is obtained at a frequency of 10 MHz.
