Application of all-optical 3R-regenerator to 80-Gbit/s RZ-DQPSK optical communication systems

(in English) Studies on coherent optical receivers using digital signal processing are progressing rapidly. However, applicable transmission data rate is limited since the schemes are based on electronic signal processing. On the other hand, all-optical signal processing technologies are expected to be applied for the future ultra high-speed optical signal processing since the technologies are not based on electronic signal processing. In this paper, we report experimental results of an all-optical 3R-regenerator based on a mode-locked laser diode and optical parametric amplification. In the experiments, we applied the 3R-regenerator to 80-Gbit/s, DQPSK signals affected by polarization-mode dispersion, and confirmed that the regenerator was effective for the quality improvement of ultra high-speed signals.
