At this time point, when the information revolution has continued for more than a decade, optical communication system also has encountered a great technical phase-transition that coherent digital receiver will be adopted for high performance electrical equalization aiming 100GbE and beyond. At this phase transition we propose an optical system description scheme based on scattering matrix aiming seamless extension from microwave to optics suitable for mutual stimulation. Optical impedance is defined for electric field of the localized complex beam that is compatible with design request in PLC, that is, matching mode spot size. Previously, Professor H. Haus introduced a Hamiltonian description of channel-drop filter on a photonic crystal circuit and discussed an equivalent optical circuit based on optical impedance. The photonic impedance will encourage intuitive power of electrical engineers aiming new application concept. |
