Effect of Emotional Image Stimulation on Cortico-Muscular Coherence during Isometric Contraction in Humans

(in English) The purpose of this study is to investigate the effect of emotional image stimulation on human motor cortex and muscle synchronization during isometric contraction in humans. The method was by calculating coherence between electroencephalogram (EEG) and electromyogram (EMG) at the first dorsal interosseous (FDI) muscle of the right hand in normal male subject under three conditions - before test (displaying gray image), during test (displaying emotional image) and after test (displaying gray image). The result of experiments showed that coherence appeared at C3 site at 13-30Hz for all the three conditions but when unpleasant-exciting emotional image was displayed, the peak coherence decreased. It can be concluded that unpleasant-exciting emotional image stimulation can give effect on motor cortex and muscle synchronization.
