Many types of ISI cancelers have been studied, however, because of heavy processing burden, they are mostly inappropriate to the receivers for mobile communications.
The Tomlinson-Harashima Precoding (THP) is a transmitter-based pre-equalization technique.
THP-OFDM systems seem to be adequate for mobile receivers since it can reduce the receiver's processing burden.
The defect of THP-OFDM systems is a degradation of BER performance due to the modulo arithmetic device (MAD),
essential for the THP.
In this report, we reconsider necessity of the MAD for THP-OFDM systems.
We pay attention to PAPRs (Peak to Average Power Ratio) of THP and THP-OFDM systems.
We conclude that we can reduce BERs of THP-OFDM system without MAD by 2.1dB when BER is $10^{-3}$.
We also evaluated the performance of clipped THP-OFDM system.
The performance of clipped THP-OFDM system is better than that with MAD when $E_b/N_0$ is less than 25dB. |
