A Current-mode Motion Field Generator Enploying CMOS Bump Circuits

(in English) A Real time CMOS optical flow sensor has been developed based on a block-matching algorithm. Bump circuits are utilized to generate exponentially proportional currents to absolute pixel intensity difference (APID). The currents are stored in memories and accumulated for block comparison using only nearest neighbor blocks. The Laplacian-distribution-like current-voltage characteristics would enable us to amplify smaller APID and are expected to increase the sensitivity. The chip was designed in a 0.18-μm 5-metal CMOS technology and sent to fabrication. The performance of the system was confirmed using HSPICE simulation. The chip is capable of dealing with 10416frame/sec image sequence for a 34x31 photo diode array using 340 kHz clock pulse.
