Recently, Visible Light Communication that communicates by modulating light of illumination attracts much attention. It is useful to increase transmission speed for a single visible-light LED to aim at a higher bit rate, wider bandwidth, and the miniaturization of the hardware of this communication system. In this study, we propose an LED driving circuit that includes the speed-enhancing circuit. With the speed-enhancing circuit the LED driving current increases in the frequency range higher than the cutoff frequency of photo-response of the LED. As a result, the speed-enhancing circuit compensates the decrease of photo-response of the LED at a higher frequency than the cutoff frequency and increases the bandwidth of the LED emitting light. In addition, the design method of the speed-enhancing circuit is clarified and the impact of the speed-enhancing circuit on frequency dependence of the LED light intensity is demonstrated. The transmission bandwidth increases from 2.6 MHz to 4.4 MHz by applying the speed-enhancing circuit on white LED and to 7.1 MHz by applying both a blue filter and the speed-enhancing circuit. |
