Throughput Evaluation for the Overhead of Sounding Reference Signals in LTE-Advanced Uplink

(in English) In LTE-Advanced uplink, it is considered to introduce closed-loop SU-MIMO (Single User Multiple Input Multiple Output) up to 4 layers with codebook based precoding scheme. Meanwhile, sounding reference signals (SRS) are transmitted from UE (User Equipment) to eNB (Enhanced Node B) to measure the channel state targeting frequency selection scheduling, optimal MCS (Modulation and Coding Schemes) , rank and precoder selection. It is necessary to assign orthogonal SRS resources in time or code domain for each Tx antenna because the receiver should calculate the channel separately. Therefore, SRS overhead would increase as the number of transmit antenna increases, resulting in the performance degradation due to scheduling delay, non-optimal MCS and precoder selection. In this paper, we evaluate the degradation numerically and propose that enlarging the SRS transmit interval is appropriate to minimize the performance degradation.
