Statistical Analysis of Pitch Pattens in English Sentence Utterances by Native Japanese Speakers
Tomoko Nariai, Kazuyo Tanaka (Univ. of Tsukuba.) SP2009-148
Abstract (in Japanese) (See Japanese page)
(in English) The present study describes statistical results obtained for certain inherent ambiguities in native Japanese speakers on sentence utterances in English. The statistical results suggest that defects of boost of pitch patterns in content words at the beginning of sentences occur in native Japanese speakers. The results also suggest that boost of pitch patterns occur for most function words uttered by native Japanese speakers. Also results suggest that maximum changes of pitch peaks of words in sentences uttered by native Japanese speakers are smaller than those uttered by native English speakers. Moreover, a comparison of the results between two groups for the word whose pitch peak is the highest in a sentence revealed no significant differences.
