Abstract (in Japanese) (See Japanese page)
(in English) The use of smart antennas for the efficient utilization of wireless resources has attracted much attention in ad hoc networks.
A smart antenna can control the beam pattern electronically to improve the space utilization and extend the communication range. However, a node makes a false judgment in a physical carrier sense because the radiated power of smart antennas is ununiform spatially. The deafness and the hidden terminal problem which are the issues of directional MAC protocol occur because of the false judgment in the physical carrier sense. In this paper, we propose adaptive control methods of the carrier sense threshold to solve the false judgment in the directional MAC protocol. This methods decrease the carrier sense threshold depending on a retransmission caused by each problem. Evaluating the performance of proposals by the computer simulation we show that the proposed methods avoid the false judgment and improve the total throughput.
