A Study on Name/ID Resolution Methods for Heterogeneous Networks
Ved P. Kafle, Masugi Inoue (NICT) IN2009-168
Abstract (in Japanese) (See Japanese page)
(in English) To accommodate heterogeneous network layer protocols in both edge and transit networks of the new generation network, we present a new layering architecture containing a new common layer, called identity layer, above the network layer. The identity layer follows the principle of ID/locator split to allow changing network layer protocols without disconnecting upper layer communication services or sessions. We then present different methods for resolving hostname or IDs into locators and discuss their impact on the communication process.
