A Study on HCCA-based Distributed Polling Scheme for 802.11 WLAN

Abstract (in Japanese) (See Japanese page)
(in English) Polling based centralized channel access is proposed in QoS-supported HCCA(HCF Controlled Channel Access). However, in the overlapping BSSs (Basic Service Sets), there are inter-BSS interference problems. In this paper, we design a distributed polling mechanism, which utilizes a busy tone based channel access scheme to protect polling based frame transmission against the interference from neighboring BSSs. To improve the channel utilization and network throughput, the proposed approach controls the range of busy tone for exclusive channel access through a tunable carrier sensing threshold over busy tone channels.
