Comparison of Efficiency in P2P Packet Cache Enabled by Multiple Flow Identification Mechanisms
Kengo Sasaki, Akihiro Nakao (Univ. of Tokyo) NS2009-212
Abstract (in Japanese) (See Japanese page)
(in English) Since the volume of P2P traffic has been increasing, various traffic control methods have been proposed. We have recently proposed a method to control P2P traffic through packet(byte)-level data cache on a router to remove redundant traffic.
We have developed a method to reduce memory consumption through identification of multiple flows carrying the same content using Local Bloom Filter (LBF) and selectively cache them to achieve a high cache hit ratio. With LBF, however, flow identification takes time in proportion
to the number of flows. This paper proposes a new method for accelerating
flow identification, while maintaining a high cache hit ratio and low memory consumption. Our new proposal identifies multiple flows carrying the same content using Global Bloom Filter (GBF).
While the LBF method prepares a Bloom Filter (BF) per flow, the GBF method lets all the flows share a single BF among all flows. According to our analysis of the P2P traffic trace at an ISP, we show the GBF method is about 10.6 times faster than the LBF method.
