Look-ahead-Distance for Lateral Control of Vision-based Vehicles

One of feature of the lateral control of vision-based vehicles is preview characteristics for a lane along which a vehicle drives, and the look-ahead-distance of the vision system affects the lateral control performance and ride quality defined with the maximum lateral acceleration. This paper considers the relationship between the look-ahead-distance, and the lateral control performance and the ride quality, when the control algorithm is designed with the LQ regulator problem, where a vehicle drives along a straight line. The optimal look-ahead-distance becomes longer as the vehicle speed becomes higher. |
