Localization and Navigation of Autonomous Robots Using Scene Images

(in English) An electric wheel-chair based autonomous robot and its navigation system using segmentation of scene images was investigated. The images are segmented into 5 kinds of region (sky, road, wood, building, others) by considering the RGB and HSV color signal distribution, two-dimensional DFT, positions of objects, and edge. 77.5% of recognition rate concerning the area of correctly segmented regions was achieved. Images of characteristic objects like windows and road signs and their positions are registered to the database. Position of the robot is estimated by matching the characteristic points found by SURF between input and the databese and identifying the objects.
