Optimum Pricing to Maximize Provider's Profit in VOD Type IPTV Services with Usage-based Rate

(in English) In VOD type IPTV services, if the number of users’ requests is more than the server capacity (maximum number of streams), some users’ requests will be blocked. If the viewing price is usage-based, the provider will lose the revenue as the blocking probability increases. The server capacity should be increased in order to decrease the blocking probability. However, if the cost to increase the server capacity is high, the viewing price will be high. Then, the number of users’ requests will decrease, and the provider’s revenue will decrease. Therefore, it is important to set the viewing price by considering both the server cost and the blocking probability. This paper analyzes this relation and shows the viewing price and the server capacity that maximize the provider’s profit.
