Abstract:
Polymer tandem cells have spurred much interest because of their advantageto harvest greater part of the solar spectrum. In this work, we design and demonstrate two types of tandem cells, namely 2-terminal and 3-terminal architectures. In 2-terminal cells, we study the role of the n-type and p-type layers constituting the interlayer and several important issues. An insight into the interlayer, consisting of a n-type nanocrystalline TiO2 layer and a p-type conducting polymer layer,
reveals that it acts as a metal-semiconductor contact as opposed to a tunnel junction in inorganic tandem cells. Based on theefficient interlayer,we obtain tandem cells with power conversion efficiency(PCE)
of 5.84%consisting of two sub-cells with PCE of 3.77% and 3.94%.Furthermore, with advanced interface engineering, 3-terminal tandem polymer solar cells are also demonstrated for the first time, with PCE of 4.8%, revealing the huge potential of this design. |
