Everyday conversations contribute to development of cooperative relationships between humans and create a sense of unity. We focus on turn-taking behaviors during conversations since smooth turn-takings may be considered as one of the cooperative behaviors. For example, a participant in conversations may make efforts to help the other participant speak when the latter wants to speak, and he/she may start speaking when the other participant does not want to speak. Thus, smooth turn-taking may be accomplished avoiding unexpected silence and collisions of utterances. The research subjectively evaluates turn-taking parameter, such as patterns of one-person/two-person responses and durations of switching pose in multiparty conversations from the standpoint of cooperative behaviors. Taking advantage of conversation evaluation system using animated agents it is shown that the turn-taking parameters strongly influence impressions with regard to friendliness and awareness which can be interpreted as cooperative behaviors. |
