Flooding is an important building component of wireless sensor networks (WSN), especially when controlling packets are broadcasted through the network.
However, in WSN, wireless devices have generally scarce resources of a small battery,
and their maintenance is practically impossible for many cases.
Then, low power design of flooding in WSN has been required.
Kikuchi et. al.[1] proposed a low power flooding algorithm based on RICER methodology.
This algorithm assumes a single-band wireless environment, which has advantages of enabling quite simple wireless devices such as active tags.
However, this algorithm requires a series of handshakes between sensor nodes, and this remains further improvements concerning the power consumption.
In this study, we consider a realistic double-band wireless environment, where simplification of the above algorithm is investigated.
As the result, a simpler flooding algorithm is obtained for a double-band wireless environment.
Through systematic simulations, we verified this proposed algorithm shows better performances than the original algorithm. |
