A Study on Optimum Fixed Rate Transmission Method in Wireless Mesh Networks

(in English) IEEE802.11a/b/g Wireless LAN (WLAN) supports multi-rate transmission. In a Mesh Network backbone using WLAN, link quality does not change significantly since node locations are usually unchanged over time. In order to achieve high throughput, it is desirable to select and use an optimum rate for each link. In this paper, an optimum fixed rate transmission method is evaluated by experiment. As a result, it is confirmed that average throughput is improved with the link-based optimum fixed rate transmission method compared with the node-based optimum fixed rate transmission and the auto-rate transmission rate methods.
