Abstract (in Japanese) (See Japanese page)
(in English) In this paper, we propose a CSMA/CA-based MAC protocol, which may be simple and flexible, and apply a concept of the sleep mode to this type of protocol to reduce the power consumption for the sensor networks. In this proposition, we consider two schemes to determine the period of sleep mode. First, we propose a scheme with the sleep mode, which is named the proposed scheme 1. The ending time of the data packet to be transmitted is predicted, and other nodes enter into the sleep mode up to the predicted time. In order to introduce the sleep mode to the CSMA/CA-based networks, we utilize request-to-send (RTS) and clear-to-send (CTS) messages used in IEEE.802.11. Second, we consider to adopt a concept of beacon mode such as used in the ZigBee system. In the beacon mode, the inactive period with a certain time interval is set, thereby reducing the power consumption. We consider a concept of adaptive beacon mode in which the length of inactive period is controlled in accordance with the amount of traffic. The combination of the proposed scheme 1 and the adaptive beacon mode is named the proposed scheme 2. The performance of the proposed scheme is evaluated with computer simulations. Proposed scheme provide low power consumption in CSMA/CA and verify the effectiveness of the proposed scheme through simulation.
