Break arcs are generated in a DC42V resistive circuit. A permanent magnet embedded in a pipe-shaped cthode made by Ag, Ag/SnO2, or Ag/ZnO. Rotational motion of break arc driven by the permanent magnet is observed with a high-speed camera. The circuit current when the electrical contacts I are closed is changed from 5A to 21A. The point starting rotation of the break arc is analyzed when the gap between the cathode surface and the magnet surface x is set to 1-5mm or contact material is changed. Lorentz force when periodic rotation starts has grown in order of Ag, Ag/SnO2, and Ag/ZnO. The arc length at that time became constant although the current is changed. However, the value has changed by materials. |
