A plastic clad silica optical fiber(PCS) is composed of pure silica core and organic polymer cladding materials. PCS is suitable transmission media for short range optical communication network because of its connectivity. However, PCS didn’t have enough durability to resist hydrothermal conditions because a part of transmission path was made from organic polymer materials. Then PCS was used in limited environment. In order to realize the excellent stability of PCS against harsh environment, the cladding material with high glass transition temperature has been developed. In this report, we describe the properties of developed material, and estimated mechanism of transmission loss increase under hydrothermal environment. |
