Ultrashort Pulse Generation from cw Beam Using Pulse Trapping and Amplification Phenomena

(in English) We demonstrated the ulttrashort pulse generation from cw beam using pulse trapping and amplification phenomena in birefringent fibers. We analyzed and clarified this phenomenon of the pulse generation from cw beam both experimentally and numerically. In the initial stage of the propagation along the fiber, a part of the cw beam which is temporally overlapped with the ultrashort pulse, is trapped and an ultrashort pulse is generated. The generated pulse is gradually amplified by the ultrashort pulse through stimulated Raman scattering along the fiber. Using a cw beam (13 mW, 1604 nm) and an ultrahosrt pulse (1 nJ, 1556 nm, 730 fs), the 240 pJ and 350 fs ultrashsort pulse was generated along a 300 m-long low birefringent fiber.
