The temperature of the waveguide should be controlled because SiO2 has temperature dependent characteristics. Athermal waveguides are needed to reduce cost and power consumption of optical equipment. We presented an athermal silica waveguide using trenches filled with low refractive index material and fabricated 1-bit delay circuits for DPSK detection. The temperature range for the excess loss of the receiver under 0.5 dB was expanded from 1.5 (non-athermal waveguide) to 25 degrees (athermal waveguide for TE mode) and to 30 degrees (athermal waveguide for TM mode). |
