This paper proposes a novel spatial division multiplexing (SDM) scheme for line-of-sight (LOS) point-to-multipoint (P-MP) indoor optical wireless system. Point-to-point (P-P) transmission system allows the usage of a narrow optical signal and the transmitted signal is detected by a photodetector with a narrow field of view (FOV). P-MP transmission, on the other hand, inherently requires the usage of a spatially idespread optical signal, which makes difficult to enable SDM due to the interference between spatially multiplexed optical signals. In the proposed scheme, optical intensity distribution created by superimposed optical signals is transmitted from the transmitter and detected by the receiver with photodetectors array, where multiple photodetectors are disposed to observe the spatial intensity distribution of optical signals. Numerical results show that the SDM can be performed in LOS P-MP indoor optical wireless communication system. |
