The weather echo is a signal reflected at the observation target.
The ground clutter is from the ground.
Therefore, we need to remove the ground clutter.
To this end, Moving Target Indicator (MTI), which suppresses the low frequency spectra of the echo, is often used to remove the ground clutter.
However, this MTI can remove components in the weather echo that exists in a low frequency band.
To avoid this problem, we propose to model the spectra of the echos with the mixture of density functions.
We employ Expectation Maximization (EM) algorithm for a penalized likelihood function to estimate the parameters of the mixed density function.
We show by experiments that the proposed method works well in estimating the velocity, the velocity width and the power
of the weather echo even when the weather echo exists in a lower frequency part. |
