1+1 path protection should be always provided to achieve carrier-grade reliability. 1+1 path protection provides primary and backup paths, which are link- or node-disjoint paths. Traffic data is transmitted on both paths. Therefore, transmission continues even if the primary path failed. However, if the primary path becomes unavailable because of link failure or planned shutdown, one path operation temporarily occurs. This condition makes a network unreliable. We propose a dynamic disjoint path discovery algorithm and an implementation framework that provides always 1+1 path protection against each single-link failure. We evaluated the characteristics of the dynamic path in terms of path length and required bandwidth. Our algorithm always achieves a low-latency path and reduces the required bandwidth when partial links are protected. |
