Propagation characteristics of left-handed two dimensional transmission line lenses

(in English) Left-handed meta-materials of both negative dielectric permittivity and negative magnetic permeability realize the so-called “superlens”, for which planar slab structure allows sub-diffraction-limit imaging, and has been actively investigated for their application to real problems. In this paper, we have designed and constructed left-handed two-dimensional transmission line lenses in microwave regime. Based on the electric field distribution measurement, circuit simulation and electromagnetic field simulation of the lenses, we investigate the negative refraction and imaging through the lenses dependent on their focal distance from an object to the lens. We further discuss the resolution of the images generated by the lenses from the view point of a surface plasmonic wave.
