Performance Evaluation of TCP Congestion Control Methods Considering Multiple Flows over WINDS

(in English) The satellite link speed has become as large as that of terrestrial links. For example, the maximum link
speed of WINDS (Wideband InterNetworking engineering test and Demonstration Satellite) which was launched on
2008 is 1.2Gbit/s. A lot of TCP variants have been proposed to improve the throughput for the satellite Internet.
The performance of these TCP variants have been evaluated by using WINDS. However, the performance of TCP
variants in case when multiple TCP flows exist concurrently has not been enough evaluated. Therefore, this paper
evaluates the performance over a network which consists of WINDS, HDR-VSAT and portable VSATs. Experimental
results show that the throughput on the practical environment is little lower than that of simulation results.
This paper discusses the reasons why.
