Hybrid Combining Multiuser Detection for Uplink OFDMA Systems with Retransmission Control and Scheduling

Abstract (in Japanese) (See Japanese page)
(in English) This report considers uplink OFDMA packet mobile communications that multiplex plural packets within the same resource block (RB) by scheduling control, and proposes hybrid combining multiuser detection (HC-MUD) that combines retransmitted packets by using metric and bit log-likelihood ratio (LLR) for the systems. In the packet transmission multiplexing plural packets within the same RB, the metric combining MUD (MC-MUD) has been proposed. MC-MUD separates multiplexed packets by MUD, and combines retransmitted packets by using the metric, that is the squared Euclid distance between the received signal and its replica. Since MC-MUD needs to retransmit the same packets until all the packets are correctly received, its throughput performance degrades in the high CNR region. To improve the throughput furthermore, LLR combining MUD (LC-MUD) that combines retransmitted packets by using the bit LLR has been proposed. However, the transmission performance of LC-MUD is worse than that of MC-MUD in the low CNR region. To solve such problems of MC-MUD and LC-MUD, HC-MUD combines the same packets by using the metric and can achieve almost the same transmission performance as that of MC-MUD. Moreover, when some packets are correctly received, HC-MUD permits new packets to be multiplexed, and thus can improve the throughput by combining with the bit LLR. Computer simulations evaluate HC-MUD with the scheduling control, and demonstrate that HC-MUD can overcome the drawbacks of MC-MUD and LC-MUD, which leads to excellent throughput performance.
