Power saving method for virtualized computer environments via dynaic cluster configuration

(in English) Power consumption of clustered virtual servers can be reduced by dynamically changing their configuration according to workload changes. Adjusting resource allocation using scale-in/scale-out and consolidation of virtual servers between physical servers can be used for this purpose. Effectiveness of the consolidation method for a large number of virtual servers decreases because of overhead for virtual server movements. In this paper, we propose the power saving method by appropriately selecting scale-in/scale-out target combing the two consolidation methods in order to reduce the provisioning overhead. The experimental evaluation shown that the proposal method can reduce power consumption 29% compared to static configuration and 10% compared to a method without consideration of virtual server movements.
