Throughput Performance in A Multi-cell Environment with Outdoor AF Relay Stations and Mobile Terminals comprising Turbo Equalization

(in English) Cellular systems with Amplify-and-Forward (AF) relay transmission are a promising solution to extend high-speed transmission areas within the cell.Outdoor AF relay stations can be deployed in the low or middle signal strength areas, so the MTs can receive signals both arriving directly from the base station and via the AF relay stations, thus improving the MTs'received SINR.On the other hand, arrival of both signals brings inter-symbol interference and inter-carrier interference due to the processing delay of the AF relay station. Multipath Division turbo equalization with Block Inter-carrier interference Cancellation (MD-BIC) can suppress ISI and ICI caused by multipath environments with greater delay than the Guard Interval length in OFDM systems. By computer simulation, we show an improvement of the throughput performance of multi-cell environments with outdoor AF relay station after applying MD-BIC.
