Aiming to realize a LAN-SAN system that can handle large scale data such as uncompressed super Hi-vision contents, 172Gb/s-optical network interface card (NIC) technology based on optical time division multiplexing (OTDM) is being developed at AIST. The NIC will comprise integrated 43Gb/s-tranceivers, ISBT all-optical gates, SOAs and mode-locked laser diodes. Using discrete components of these, we built a system and demonstrated OTDM transmissions. Bit-error-rates, which were well below the FEC limit were obtained confirming the idea of 172Gb/s-OTDM NIC is practical. |
