Discourse Analysis of Distant Contact Situation

(in English) A “contact situation” generally refers to communication between a native and a nonnative speaker through the use of a target language. However, more recently, with the development of information and communication technology, it is now possible for L2 learners to communicate in “distant” contact situations. From the very beginning of my study on Japanese Applied Linguistics, I have mainly focused on the contact situations between a native and a nonnative speaker by comparing computer-mediated communication with face-to-face communication at the micro-level. Later, I carried out more macro-level investigations by adding the socio-linguistic and socio-cultural aspects to my linguistic analysis. This represented an effort to overcome the limitations of solely focusing on the explicit linguistic features of the discourse.
