Resolving Conflict through Assertive Communication in the Workplace -- Case Studies of Relationship with Managers --

(in English) The study to be reported in this presentation is a qualitative analysis of assertive communication based on interviews with office workers. The interviews suggest that they resolved conflicts in the workplace by asserting their opinions against their superiors, when the issues affected their own personal well-being and when they were sure of the legitimacy of their opinions, even though the primary factor that caused the conflict was organizational problem and/or corporate workplace cultures. Concerns regarding power structures within the organization or personality issues of the participants did not influence their approach but affected the choice of particular strategy to be employed.
