Hierarchical optical path networks that adopt waveband is recognized as an important technology to suppress the optical switch size and to meet the traffic demands which is expected to increase in the future. In this paper, considering the fact that the waveband add/drop ratio is a major factor in the switch scale, we develop a new design algorithm which can suppress the grooming function at a fixed rate, since the grooming process cause increase in the waveband add/drop ratio. The proposed algorithm aggregates wavelength paths having nearby source/destination pairs by utilizing s-d Cartesian product space [Yagyu ’08]. The algorithm also classifies waveband paths into two types at each node; one is a group of wavebands that accommodate wavelength paths terminated or originated at the electrical layer. The other is a group of wavebands in which wavelength paths are requested to reallocate to different waveband paths, i.e. the grooming function. Numerical results show that the proposed algorithm with the minimal intermediate grooming capability can significantly reduce the total network cost compared to the simple End-to-End scheme. |
