Electromagnetic interference (EMI) from Radio Frequency Identification (RFID) reader/writers on implantable medical devices (IMD) is investigated. The purpose of our research is to study a numerical EMI estimation method. In this paper, a numerical EMI estimation methodology based upon finite-difference time-domain (FDTD) analysis is presented. The RFID/IMD-EMI discussed in this paper is implantable medical device EMI due to HF (13.56 MHz) RFID reader/writers. Some numerical HF RFID reader/writer antenna models and a human torso phantom model including pacemaker and lead wire are presented. In addition, to investigate the difference in induced voltage generated in the terminal of IMDs due to magnetic flux distribution, antenna size and distance between antennas and the torso phantom are varied. |
