[Special Talk] Analysis of Normal Brain Aging using Brain MRI Database of Japanese Subjects

(in English) Age-related change of the brain was analyzed using MRI database of the 2,500 Japanese subjects. The gray matter volume decreased with age, while white matter volume increased with age until age of 50 and then went down. Longitudinal study in 383 subjects who received the second MRI with 7 year-interval revealed that the gray matter volume decline was slower in women than that in men. Standard brain for each age and sex group was calculated using anatomical standardization technique. The brain network analysis based on graph theory using regional gray matter volume exhibited “small-world” property and modular structure. The parameters for them were different among young, middle and old group.
