(in English) Longitudinal ultrasonic wave propagation in bovine femoral cortical bones was investigated using a conventional ultrasonic pulse system. First, spherical specimens were obtained from anterior parts in the right and left cortical bones. Then, we experimentally investigated the three-dimensional distribution of ultrasonic wave velocity in the vicinity of the bone axis. Directions of the highest wave velocity were not the bone axis. The directions showed tilts of several degrees from bone axis. Moreover, the results from the X-ray pole figure analysis indicated that Hydroxyapatite crystallites orientation also showed similar tilts. The right and left cortical bones showed similar velocity tendency, in addition, the tilts from the bone axis were bilaterally symmetric. These interesting results might lead to an assessment of the complicated elasticity of cortical bone.
