Abstract (in Japanese) (See Japanese page)
(in English) Recently, higher transmission speeds are expected for high definition images and video services. Multiple-input and multiple-output (MIMO) transmission has been gathering attention because they can increase the data rate without expanding the frequency bandwidth through the use of multiple antennas at the transmitter and receiver. The use of a short-range MIMO (SR-MIMO) is an effective technique for high-speed-short-range communication. The optimum aperture size of array antenna grows when the transmission distance is increased. Hence the miniaturization of the antenna is an issue of SR-MIMO. This paper shows the utility of the dual-polarized planar antennas for the miniaturization technique of SR-MIMO array antenna by performing the analysis on MIMO transmission characteristics based on the electromagnetic field calculation. Even in SR-MIMO transmission whose transmission is conducted in near-field, it was confirmed that we can obtain high channel capacity by a simple replacement of dual-polarized antenna with the single-polarized planar antenna. Moreover, it was confirmed that the channel capacity was improved 30bit/s/Hz with the same device scale and the same antenna aperture size by the use of dual-polarized antenna when the transmission distance is 10.
