We have investigated the effect on magnetic flux trapping by moats formed in NbN and MgB2 ground planes. The effect was evaluated by measuring flux trapping in series arrays of 1000 Josephson junctions fabricated on Nb, NbN and MgB2 ground planes. In this evaluation, flux trapping in the junctions on NbN ground planes was almost not observed in the perpendicular magnetic field range of -1.8 T to 1.4 T. Since this range was approximately twice as wide as the range in junctions on Nb grand planes, the moats formed in NbN ground planes were effective for excluding magnetic flux compared with Nb ground planes. MgB2 ground planes also encourage excluding magnetic flux by investigation of flux trapping in the range of 5 to 20 T. |
