Multi-way system for obtaining the sound localization at two listening points
Masahiro Mitsuishi, Kenji Furihata (Shinshu Univ.) EA2010-68
Abstract (in Japanese) (See Japanese page)
(in English) A two-channel sound reproduction system (stereo) has a “sweet spot” between the two loudspeakers. When listening to music in stereo it is desirable to be positioned symmetrically between the loudspeakers. Unfortunately this is never possible in a car. As a result the sound heard from the nearest loudspeaker and the stereo image is distorted. This distortion has to be corrected depending on where one is placed in the car. In this paper, therefore, a multi-way system used four tweeters and two woofers, whether it is possible to recover the correct stereo image as well as a clear center image in front of the listener in the car, was experimentally discussed by choosing the right crossover frequency, which can greatly improve the performance of the system. From the results, the most effective tweeters can choose at the crossover frequency of about 500Hz.
