Abstract (in Japanese) (See Japanese page)
(in English) Many researchers have used several kinds of earphones to study out–of–head sound localization. Several
studies address the use of insert earphones. Since these directly radiate the sound wave to the ear canal, insert
earphones minimize the influence of pinna shape. Therefore, they minimize the use of equalization in out–of–head
sound localization. Out–of–head sound localization with minimal equalization might be realized instead of the insert
earphones if the sound wave is directly radiated to the entrance of ear canal. This report focuses on the incident
direction of the sound source so as to minimize the influence of pinna shape. We perform numerical analyses using
a hard sphere–disk model and conduct PRTF measurements using five pinna models that replicate the human ear.
The results suggest that effect of pinna shape is decreased if pinna azimuth angle of the incident direction of the
sound source is similar to pinna inclination angle.
