Relationships between Daily Activities and Individual Acceptable Noise Levels
Ryo Tohyama, Kenji Furihata (Shinshu Univ.) EA2010-83
Abstract (in Japanese) (See Japanese page)
(in English) In our previous paper, an experimental noise annoyance meter, which can evaluate individual acceptable noise levels based on a modified logistic prediction model was proposed. The noise annoyance meter was designed for a practical instrument for residents exposed to noise to help them understand what a physical equivalent noise level given as dB values “means” with respect to annoyance. If at least one dose-response relation is obtained from each subject, the logistic model can predict whether a sound is annoying or not from its LAeq, (5min) [dB] value. Therefore, acceptable noise levels were also predicted from previous data [2]. Because stability is largely influenced by the internal consistency or reliability of the acceptable noise level, it is also imperative to investigate the level of scale reliability at each point in daily life. In this paper, individual acceptable noise levels of 8 normal-hearing subjects at daily activities (reading and bedtime) were measured with the method of adjustment using a simulated road traffic steady noise. From the results, it can be said that (a) the internal consistency of acceptable noise levels for daily activity was verified from data of twenty times for each subject, (b) for logistic regression parameters, the bedtime activity curve estimated the midpoint M to be 40.4 dB, the spread S to be 4.5 dB, and the explained variance Pseudo-R2 to be 0.9442.
