[Encouragement Talk] Topology-aware Traffic Control System for P2P Networks

(in English) Copyright infringement is considered a significant issue in P2P network communications. Index and content poisoning have been proposed to control the exchange of copyrighted content. Unfortunately, however, such traffic control methods may increase the load on the target network since all the nodes in the network will receive the high load of control traffic. In this paper, we propose a method to improve poisoning by limiting the scope of poisoning so that even when we apply poisoning to a small number of nodes, we can still achieve the effect of traffic control. In general, the nodes with high degrees appear to be such effective targets. However, we show that in structured P2P networks such as Winny, poisoning only high degree nodes is not effective and we must consider the network structure for effective poisoning. We also develop a method for effective poisoning on a Winny network based on clustering, using the characteristics such as degrees and the network structure obtained by distributed crawlers.
