Performance Evaluation of a 3-Sector Antenna System for Wireless Mesh Networks Using Simulation Method

(in English) From analytical results, it is reported that 3-sector antenna can achieve much better throughput performance than omni-directional antenna in wireless mesh networks. It assumes that each node’s signals reach only neighboring node because of simplification. In the actual environment, each node’s signals, however, reach more long distance, and carrier sense range becomes wider than the communication range. -In this paper, we investigate the performance of wireless mesh networks using 3-sector antenna by simulation in the realistic assumption. As a result, we found that there are some hidden nodes and its influence is strong. But, 3-sector antenna can get high throughput on condition that offered load is controlled at an appropriate value.
